Ten decorative ideas for a beautiful terrace

Tips and tricks for creating a dream terrace

You are lucky enough to have a terrace but you are not sure how to arrange it to enhance it and make the most of it? Here are 10 decorative ideas to enhance your terrace.

1/ Choose colorful furniture

Even more so on a terrace in town than in the countryside, choose cheerfully colored furniture, and mix the colors (pink, green, purple, turquoise, yellow, etc.) with each other for a totally stimulating pop effect. Warmth and friendliness guaranteed!

2/ Relax in an outdoor beanbag chair

The famous “pear” of the 70s is experiencing a real revival in the world of decoration. They come in all colors, sizes and shapes. You don’t sit, you curl up… or you wallow, depending on your age or your taste for siestas.

And the big advantage of this malleable armchair is that it goes without complex from the living room to the terrace. Be careful all the same to choose a model in a canvas designed for the outdoors.

3/ Install lights at ground level

Guaranteed effect at nightfall! Grazing light enhances objects, avoids a pale complexion and creates a very romantic atmosphere. We fell in love with the lamps that are all round like moons, graphic and elegant at the same time.

4/ Put gravel

Because gravel is reminiscent of walking paths, it is perfect for giving a patio a country charm. Which is a real luxury when you live in the city. But be careful not to put it everywhere: only on small, well-designed roads.

5/ Bet on zinc

There is a lot of zinc furniture today designed specifically for patios. Superb for a contemporary terrace, even better if it is located near the roofs.

6/ Take out the mats

As soon as the weather is nice, put a carpet (why not the one in the living room, provided of course that it is also suitable for outdoor use) on the floor of the terrace. It’s a real incentive to spend time outdoors. The terrace is then transformed into a cozy place and immediately takes on a southern air.

7/ Play the urban jungle card

Do you who live in the city miss nature? Opt for graphic and exuberant plants, such as bamboo (in pots, otherwise the roots will overwhelm you), aralia (with large cut-out leaves), yucca (which immediately creates a tropical effect) and certain palm trees (those that are suitable to our climate). Put a lot of them, and arrange them so that you can see them from inside your home too.

8/ Protect your patio nicely from prying eyes

The problem with terraces in the city is that there is often a vis-à-vis. Buy canisses, wooden trellises or even chicken wire to protect yourself against this. Decorate everything with cute accessories: artificial ivy (to avoid attracting spiders), butterflies and small birds, hanging candle holders, light garlands (important for the evening!)…

9/ Opt for a masonry bench

Or better yet, the bench which is both a box for storing accessories and foldable garden furniture. For this, it is better to call on a good handyman. Once covered with pretty cushions, you are transported to Greece or Morocco, as desired.

10/ Attract small birds

Nothing is more bucolic than seeing a robin or a titmouse hopping on your terrace. For this, install a feeder (which we do not forget to fill regularly) and even a birdhouse if you want to be able to marvel at the birth of baby birds. Your kids will love it!
